Our Beliefs
Unity Church of Raleigh is a sacred spiritual community joining together to experience and express the Power of the living, loving Presence of God in our daily lives.
At its core, Unity is a positive spiritual practice that seeks wisdom and enlightenment from many spiritual traditions. Our founders, Charles and Myrtle Fillmore, considered their teachings to be “Practical Christianity,” and they looked at all scripture as metaphor and allegory - metaphysical. Today, Unity includes principles from a wide range of teachings and New Thought teachers. We know that each individual has a connection to the eternal Truth and power that we call the Divine. Therefore, we don’t have any dogma; rather, we have spiritual practices that enable each individual’s spiritual and emotional growth. We teach Practical Christianity based on the ancient wisdom of people who walk the talk, such as Jesus.
We welcome all people and honor the God of your understanding. Spirited and Spirit-filled, we embrace people from all backgrounds and walks of life, wherever you may be on your spiritual journey. We offer energizing and meaningful ways to discover the Christ spirit within and develop a supportive, loving, and fun community of Unity friends!
We promote a way of life that produces health, prosperity, happiness, and peace of mind. Unity has established centers of education and worship throughout the world centered on our Five Unity Principles of healing and prosperity:
-
God is absolute good, everywhere present.
-
Every human being has a spark of divinity within, the Christ spirit. Our essence is of God; therefore, we are inherently good.
-
We are co-creators with God, creating reality through thoughts held in mind.
-
Through prayer and meditation, we align our heart-mind with God. Denials and affirmations are tools we use.
-
Knowing and understanding Unity Principles is not enough - we must also live the Truth we know through our thoughts, words, and actions.

Unity's Prayer for Protection
Written by Unity's Poet Laureate James Dillet Freeman, in 1943, it has gone through various revisions but remains a foundational description of who we are and what we believe.
Unity's 12 Powers
Each of us is born with spiritual strengths that Unity calls "Powers". Charles Fillmore, one of the Unity founders, felt it was important to acknowledge and build these 12 Powers in order to grow spiritually. At UCR we study a different Power each month. Examples of the tools we use for developing these Powers are below.
April: The Power of Love - Yoga Pose - Meditation - Susan's Video
May: The Power of Power - Yoga Pose - Meditation - Susan's Video
June: The Power of Imagination - Yoga Pose - Meditation - Susan's Video
July: The Power of Understanding - Yoga Pose - Meditation - Susan's Video
August: The Power of Will - Yoga Pose - Meditation - Susan's Video
September: The Power of Order - Yoga Pose - Meditation - Susan's Video
October: The Power of Zeal - Yoga Pose - Meditation - Susan's Video
